Anya's July 21 Mani

1
COM

I had MG pick the design for this. He chose the colors too, saying it had to look like a laser light show.

Used in this mani:
  • ORLY - "Liquid Vinyl"
  • Maybelline Color Show Metallics - "Blue Blowout"
  • Design - DRK-A image plate

Nail Striping Tape Mani

2
COM

Considering I was sobbing through most of this mani, I'm shocked how well it came out. Especially for my first try with nail striping tape.

Why was I sobbing? Two words: Les Miserables.
I'm SO glad I did not go to the theater for that movie.

In any case, this has:
China Glaze "White on White"
with a pink ombre done with Nina Ultra Pro "Punki Pink"
and ORLY "Liquid Vinyl" on top.

And the nail striping tape I ordered from China...or rather the absence of nail striping tape.

I've been forgetting to snap photos of my manis in the last few months...mostly because I haven't been doing nice ones or because the nice ones all went to a different blog post.

Here's this week's mani.

This was done with China Glaze "Crimson" as the primary coat
(which ends up looking dark purple in just about every light)

with a little bit of essie "no place like chrome" sponged on the tips
(I did mix the two polishes before I sponged it on)

I love how this one came out. It looks even better in person!

Mel's Mani

I painted my nails and my boyfriend said "uhh you should decorate them". So this is my attempt at decorating my nails with nail art stickers I got on clearance at Sallys.

PS: Excuse the mess - I'm waiting on my nails to dry (and I'm lazy) before I clean up.

Anya's Dec 22 Manicure

1
COM

I did this holiday manicure last night while watching a few episodes of Community.
My guy often complains that I never do red nails. My excuse is red rarely looks good on me. Earlier this week I did green nails so it was only fair I try out red for Christmas.

My cat decided to get in on the photo ;)

This manicure uses:
  • ORLY "Grave Mistake" (a flat red color)
  • China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" (a deeper red with red glitter)
  • Essie "No Place Like Chrome" (silver stamped)
  • Julep Freedom Polymer Topcoat
  • Bundle Monster BM-205 for the filigree details on the tips
  • Bundle Monster BM-225 for the ball ornament on my thumb (shown below)

Ciaté Velvet Manicure

I saw this set at Sephora when we visited Ohio last month. I couldn't bring myself to buy it then but when I got the e-mail about the IT KIT deal, this was at the top of my shopping cart.

I ordered the Blue Suede color. Here's what was in the box:

My first attempt wasn't terribly successful.
Here's my second attempt, about 16 hours after I did them:

As you can see, the edges have chipped. There are also a few worn spots where the polish is visible beneath.

This is a really neat effect but it doesn't last long.

We have some flocking at the house for hobby-type miniature landscaping. I might try this effect with that because it seems like it will be similar.

This Week's Manicure

I (Anya) have been super busy between the promotion I didn't want at my day job and the books I'm editing at night. My nails suffered. Thankfully I turned in edits on Sunday night and have had a little bit of time to catch up.

Here's the manicure I did last night:

This one uses:
Base Polish: Maybelline Color Show "Go Go Green" 340
Stamp Polish: ORLY - "Liquid Vinyl" 40484
Bundle Monster Image Plate BM-212

I'm pleased with the Maybelline polish. It was cheap (under $4) and coats well. I've yet to stamp with it. Check back for news about that.

Lace-like Nails

2
COM
Melissa Tweeted me a picture of someone's lace-like manicure with French tipped nails last week. I'd never actually tried a normal French Manicure mostly because I have prominent tips as it is, though not bright white like these. So I decided to try it.

My first attempt was done with China Glaze White on White for both the tips and the stamp (BM-201).

The second one used the China Glaze for the tips and Konad stamping polish in White for the stamp (Mash-40).

Clearly the Konad is a brighter white in one coat.

I used guides for the tips on all of these (Nailene Perfect Tips) and set the guides beneath my actual white tips (hence why they're uneven).

I need a bit more practice on this and probably better designs but the effect is nice!

Ombré Manicure

COM
I finally got around to buying makeup wedges today so I could try to do an ombré manicure. I used this tutorial as my inspiration. It came out nice unless you look close (nicer than this photograph shows lol). I still haven't gotten the hang of the crisp edges thing the pros can do.

But I'm pleased with the effect. I'll probably do this again even though it's messy (most of the time was spent on clean-up).

This manicure used these polishes:
Julep "Jessica"
ORLY "Prelude to a Kiss"

Mani for Monday

COM
Tomorrow is a big day at the day job. I do my first interview as a director. I'm nervous.

I picked out my outfit and did a manicure to match.

Sort of. Skip to it.

Here's the fabric of my tunic shirt:

Nice right?

Here's the manicure I came up with:

This uses:
  • Bundle Monster plate BM-215
  • Sally Hansen Salon 4131-01 Sterling
  • Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro 282 Hard Metal
  • Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
As you can see the Bundle Monster plates are pretty good. I don't like them as much as the Mash plates in terms of details and design but they're better than the cheeky plates I bought.

My Sally Hansen Sterling is getting near the end of the bottle but it still looks awesomely chrome-like. However it chips like crazy (I've already chipped it more since I took the photo ten minutes ago) and that Seche Vite doesn't do anything to stop it. I really need a better fast dry top coat that won't cost me an arm and a leg then crap out halfway through the bottle (I'm looking at YOU Essie).

Steampunk Mani

COM
I handed my stack of stamp plates to my guy last night while we watched Supernatural and told him to pick a design. He handed me Mash plate #45 and told me to do "Steampunk Nails". He meant use the three "gears".

So I grabbed my box of polish to look for something suitably steampunk. I ended up going with Essie's "Pretty Penny" (yes, again) for the stamp color and the basecoat is ORLY "Buried Alive".

This is after a day. It's chipped and wasn't great to begin with. I'm still learning ;)

If I had to do this over again, I'd probably throw some silver and blue metallic in there too.

This week's manicure

COM
This week's manicure is another with Mash stamping plates.

I used Essie's Mirrored Metallic "Penny Talk" for the base coat (I apologize for the photo, it looks copper in person)

And the stamped color was a black ORLY polish (I don't have the name on me right now).

Mash plate #39 is the design I used.
