Nail Striping Tape Mani
Considering I was sobbing through most of this mani, I'm shocked how well it came out. Especially for my first try with nail striping tape.
Why was I sobbing? Two words: Les Miserables.
I'm SO glad I did not go to the theater for that movie.
In any case, this has:
China Glaze "White on White"
with a pink ombre done with Nina Ultra Pro "Punki Pink"
and ORLY "Liquid Vinyl" on top.
And the nail striping tape I ordered from China...or rather the absence of nail striping tape.
ORLY "Sweet Peacock"
I grabbed this polish "Sweet Peacock" during Sally Beauty's recent by buy 2 ORLY for $11.
It's a beautiful color.
Check it out on my nails:
Here it is stamped:
All in all, not a bad polish.

I did this holiday manicure last night while watching a few episodes of Community.
My guy often complains that I never do red nails. My excuse is red rarely looks good on me. Earlier this week I did green nails so it was only fair I try out red for Christmas.
My cat decided to get in on the photo ;)
This manicure uses:
- ORLY "Grave Mistake" (a flat red color)
- China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" (a deeper red with red glitter)
- Essie "No Place Like Chrome" (silver stamped)
- Julep Freedom Polymer Topcoat
- Bundle Monster BM-205 for the filigree details on the tips
- Bundle Monster BM-225 for the ball ornament on my thumb (shown below)

Matte Top Coats - Hard Candy & Julep
This matte polish craze has been going strong all year. Yet I've been struggling with getting a nice look from my original bottle of Hard Candy's "Matte-ly In Love" without smudging, chipping or otherwise missing portions.
I decided to try a matte top coat from Sephora. The one they had was by Julep. Since I already had a few Julep polishes from subscription boxes, and since I needed a few more dollars to hit the $25 get-free-samples-etc minimum on Sephora, I decided to grab this.
The Julep top coat is shown on my middle finger. And the Hard Candy on the ring finger.
Julep smudged the design (which has been dry for 24hrs)
Hard Candy didn't...which is strange because usually it does.
I've read it's a good idea to put a regular top coat over your stamped designs before putting a matte coat on. I didn't do that. So it's to be expected that both of these would smudge.
Since I began writing the draft of this post Thursday I've done two more manicures with this matte top coat, one with ORLY's "Liquid Vinyl" and the one shown below with chevron guides and the ORLY color "Decoded" (a clearance buy at Sally's today). All of the flaws in the below image are my fault, not the Julep polish. I was up and down a bit more than I should have been and hasty with the application.
I've determined the Julep does a nice job matte-ifying polish with one coat. Overall I'm pleased with the effect.
Ombré Manicure
I finally got around to buying makeup wedges today so I could try to do an ombré manicure. I used this tutorial as my inspiration. It came out nice unless you look close (nicer than this photograph shows lol). I still haven't gotten the hang of the crisp edges thing the pros can do.
But I'm pleased with the effect. I'll probably do this again even though it's messy (most of the time was spent on clean-up).
This manicure used these polishes:
Julep "Jessica"
ORLY "Prelude to a Kiss"
Steampunk Mani
So I grabbed my box of polish to look for something suitably steampunk. I ended up going with Essie's "Pretty Penny" (yes, again) for the stamp color and the basecoat is ORLY "Buried Alive".
This is after a day. It's chipped and wasn't great to begin with. I'm still learning ;)
If I had to do this over again, I'd probably throw some silver and blue metallic in there too.
This week's manicure
I used Essie's Mirrored Metallic "Penny Talk" for the base coat (I apologize for the photo, it looks copper in person)
And the stamped color was a black ORLY polish (I don't have the name on me right now).
Mash plate #39 is the design I used.
Another Mash Manicure
Here's a shot of my latest stamped manicure.
This one was done with Walgreens bargain polish for the basecoat, ORLY for the stamp and Mash Plate #43
