Julep - September "Modern Beauty" Box

2
COM

This month I opted for the Modern Beauty because it seemed like a sweet deal (two $20+ items for $20)

The items were:
  • Bare Face Cleansing Oil
  • Blank Canvas Mattifying Face Primer

Here's the interior:

And here are the products themselves:

Bare Face Cleansing Oil

The instructions mention putting this on dry hands and dry face and then washing it off. I've tried the usual way and this way. It's a little odd doing it with dry skin and hands but it works. This stuff has an oily consistency but it washes right off. And my skin does feel cleansed afterward.

Blank Canvas Mattifying Face Primer

If your primary concern is shiny skin, this is the primer for you. I've tried it beneath mattifying foundation twice. Once on a Saturday for dinner and a movie and then today while training folks at work and then my usual exercise routine. Even though I was a sweaty mess after exercising, there was hardly any sheen on my forehead. As for how much of that was the primer and how much was the foundation...the foundation does a fairly good job of being matte for a few hours but as the day wears on, the shine comes out. But not with this primer.

In terms of hiding pores, wrinkles, and imperfections...I can't say this primer did much of anything on that front.

Findings: All in all, I'm pleased with these products at the $10 a piece I paid for them but I doubt I'd pay full price for them.

Anya's Ipsy February

COM

I'm a bit behind on February's Ipsy bag. I apologize.

I've only gotten a chance to try out the Pop mascara and the MICA Beauty Cosmetics gel eyeliner.

The mascara wasn't anything to write home about.

That said, the gel eyeliner is GREAT--if you like gel eyeliner. It was a full-sized jar that goes on smooth and easily with a cheap'ish eyeliner brush I bought at Target. And it stays on all day. It does smudge if you rub your eyes but it's not too bad. The only complaint I have with it is that its very hard to get all of it clean compared to my other eyeliners.

As usual, the coastal scent eyeshadows just aren't any colors I'm into.

I'm also pretty vested in te primers I have so I haven't gotten around to trying the pixi.

And lash cards? *shrug* Not sure that will ever get used.

January Beauty Samples - Hourglass Veil Primer & YSL Shocking Mascara

COM

Lately it seems as though I've ordered something from Sephora every month (with good reason, I HAVE). But I have an excuse this time (don't I always).

My blog mate here at N@N Melissa told me that one of the beauty points rewards available was a deluxe sample of Hourglass's Veil primer. I'd been contemplating buying the small tube simply to try it. Getting it free was an even better idea. I only had to decide what to order. She was even super awesome and gave me a $5 Wrapp GC toward the cause.

The hourglass primer isn't the magical cure-all I'd hoped I'd find...and now am beginning to think I NEVER will.

However I will put it up there in my top 3 or 4 primers (along with Smashbox's Photo Finish, Korres Quercetin & Oak Age-reversing Primer and MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Microperfecting Primer)

Yves Saint Laurent "Shocking" Mascara (below)

Here's the macara itself:

I also scored this Yves Saint Laurent "Shocking" Mascara freebie. The package was so neat that I had to take a photo of it. It was setup like a perfume sample package but a bit larger. And VERY shiny. Ooooh, shiny.

The mascara clumps a little but not too badly. It does what it says it does--lengthens. And even better, it doesn't dry or irritate my eyes like some of the other brands I've sampled.

This is great for a freebie but I'm not sure its worth $30 for a full-size tube. Not when Benefit's is just as good for a mere $10.

So there you have it. Thanks for reading! <3
