Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics - Lip Tar: Test Tubes x3 Blue Blood

Melissa and I have both wanted to try out Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics's Lip Tar since it's the lip color of choice for a few high-profile drag queens. But we've seen some mixed reviews about how they work. So when I spotted these little minis for $19 in the mini bins at Sephora's check-out, I snatched them up. I had it in my head that this was a tube of each of the primary colors, and that I'd be able to make any color combination with them. But I was wrong. The lighter tube is of clear lip primer.

Here's a picture with my fingers for scale:

Here's the back of the package where it talks about mixing colors and collecting all the mini sets:

I figured I was going to need a liner for this so I grabbed my Starlooks "Bare" Lip pencil and lined my lips. Then I put on a little bit of primer. I waited maybe thirty seconds and then applied "RX". Here's the result:

Following the same method, here is "Stalker":

You can see where I had a little go off and I had to clean it up, and didn't do a very good job.

Here is my super quick attempt at combining the two:

MG had just called me for dinner (yes, he cooks, I'm super lucky), so I was rushing on this one.

I did apply Stalker without liner in between the first and second pictures. It feathered a bit. So using the lip tar color + primer alone does not stop the feathering. You'll need a lip liner of some sort to keep it in place.

I didn't keep these on for more than a few minutes. The red got all over my teeth. And these stained anything they got in contact with. A wet face cloth will get rid of them, but that's really difficult to deal with if you've already done up your entire face. So be very careful and patient when using these. I also doubt they'll stay on your mouth while eating or drinking.

My final say is these would be fun for special occasions but they aren't going to be your go-to lip color. Even if you got a normal shade.

  1. Darn, I might still buy that pink/red toned mini set to play with. But I won't have high hopes. Also need to pick up a lip liner!!

    1. You definitely do need a liner. Even a cheap nude one from Sally's or Nyx should do the trick.
