Anya's Review: Sauté Express - Land O'Lakes
Here's another BzzAgent product we got free: Land O'Lakes Sauté Express. We picked the Garlic & Herb flavor. Unfortunately, the one I grabbed had a very recent expiration date so we were only able to use it twice. But here are our findings:
This is the chicken my other half made with the product:
And here's the pork made with the product:
The chicken wasn't terribly flavorful but damn, the pork was great. Oddly it tasted nothing like garlic and herb. It was closer to a barbecue-type taste.
While we might try this again (hopefully with a lengthier expiration date), we'll be trying a different flavor...and hoping the flavors match as advertised.
N@N's Review: Buitoni Riserva
I just love it when an email comes in from BzzAgent asking if I want to take part in a new campaign. This one included food! Even better, Italian food! We'd tried a few Buitoni products in the past...fresh fettuccine, angel hair pasta, and tortellini. All were fairly good. So I was thrilled to join this campaign for fancy ravioli.
Above is a picture of the coupons I got. With that, I bought this Shrimp Scampi Ravioli:
We followed the directions on the package and made it two ways, one with olive oil only and one with homemade pasta sauce.
Here's the ravioli with our homemade sauce. Looks, good, doesn't it?
And here it is with the olive oil only:
The olive oil only option lets you really taste the filling. And let me tell you. The filling is good.
My Findings:
I was skeptical of "shrimp scampi" in ravioli. Buitoni pulls it off! These really taste like shrimp scampi has been stuffed into a ravioli. I'll definitely be buying them again. And next time I'm not bothering with the pasta sauce. These are good enough all by themselves. If there's one dish a company could say tastes like it was made in a restaurant, it's definitely this one!
N@N's Review: Luster Premium White
Anya before (incandescent lighting)
Anya after (incandescent lighting)
Anya after
(natural lighting on the same day & no further applications)
Anya's review of Luster Premium White:
Let me begin by saying the instructions on this are a bit confusing. Step 4 says repeat steps 1-3 12 times. It's like a dental while loop! But then below that there are instructions for only doing the process 4 times (only? hah! each session of 1-3 takes at least 11 minutes) or twice a day. Their instructions are so confusing that they had to add in an FAQ to explain how it really works. It's time to fire your copy editor if you need an FAQ to answer things that should have been covered in the initial instructions. And all the warnings not to let the gel touch gums or lips? Let's just say that's frightening.
The first time I tried this system I ended up drooling all over myself while trying to keep the gel away from my lips for the 30 seconds it demanded. (uh oh! The instructions ALSO said to keep it out of my saliva). My lips were very dry after that.
The second test a few days later happened much the same as the first.
The third and fourth times I accidentally got the gel on my gums. The stinging sensation wasn't pleasant but it went away after I quickly wiped the gel away.
After that I learned to roll up clean toilet paper and place it over my bottom lip and against my gums. This kept the gel from getting on either and makes the process a little easier.
Like Mel mentions below, there was no teeth sensitivity after using this product so that much is good.
From the pictures above, it sure does look like my teeth are whiter. I'm not sure if that's because one was taken indoors and the other outdoors. To my eyes...you know, in a mirror, I don't see a huge difference from when I started the process. But I guess I look at myself in the mirror daily so I likely wouldn't notice differences.
That said, I can't say I'll buy another package of this stuff after I run out.
Mel's review:
I'll start by saying that this isn't my first Luster product I've received from BzzAgent. So the confusing directions weren't too confusing for me this time around. I do agree with Anya that most people will have to re-read the directions or find a youtube video on how to actually use some of their products. While I didn't notice a huge difference, I did notice a slight whitening effect, enough so that people without major stains on their teeth will be happy. Like with the first Luster whitening set, this one has the same issue, the drool factor. Anything mouth related that you can't close your mouth due to not being able to get it on the gums or in the saliva is going to cause issues. I didn't notice any teeth sensitivity after using this for a few days straight. So as I said before, if you don't have serious stains and are looking for an affordable teeth whitening system I would recommend this.
Choose Cheese - Sargento Voxbox
Here's the bag I got with my free coupon and the cheese holder in action.
The Colby-Jack sticks were awesome! These are definitely the best cheese sticks/snacks I've ever had. And I'm not just saying that because I got them free. The quality is good and the taste is excellent. They're a pretty good value, too at 12 sticks for something like $3.84 (so less than fifty cents a stick). I'll be buying a bag the next time I have a hankering for cheese (because I've already gone through the one I had).
The only problem? Just eating one!
Mel's September Ipsy
1. Cailyn Lip Gloss - I've heard that this product is super pigmented. I also can't help but notice that it's the same packaging as their gel liner, which I find slightly odd.
2. NYX Eye Shadow - I might use this item, I have colors very similar to this one so I'll wait and see.
3. It's So Big - I won't be trying this item since I'm up to my eyeballs in mascara samples right now. I'm trying to only open one at a time so I can go through them.
4. Starlooks Eye Liner in Obsidian - I won't be trying this item, I'm a big fan of liquid eye liner, and pencil always makes me look like a raccoon.
5. Freeman Face Mask(s) - I tried the pink one, I believe it was for face brightening. I opened it and had issues with actually putting the mask on my face. Unless little kids are applying these I don't see how most people will be able to fit the eye holes. It wound up covering about 1/4th of an inch on both outer sides of my eyes. Also the actual mask is dripping wet. Do this over a sink when you first apply or you'll have a mess on your hands. Oh and wash your face immediately after like it says in the instructions or your face will itch like crazy.
Special K Nourish
This is another pack I got from BzzAgent. I was thrilled to get this one! Here are my reviews:
Dark chocolate nut delight nutrition bar: this is a dry, nutty bar with a little bit of what looks like chocolate glazed over the top. This bar seemed denser than the cranberry almond but that may have been the heavy faux-chocolate taste I didn't particularly like.
lemon twist nutrition bar: like the chocolate nut bar, this lemony concoction had a little bit of glaze drizzled over the top. It had the same consistency of the cranberry bar without the nuts. The lemon taste was powerful but not eye-watering. I'd count this as my second favorite of the three.
Cranberry almond hot cereal: I used the "preferred" steeping method of pouring hot water up to the fill line in the bowl and letting it sit for 2-3 minutes. This resulted in a very soupy instant oatmeal texture. The included foil packet had dried cranberries and chunks of almond. Despite the soupy consistency and lukewarm temperature, it wasn't bad. I couldn't quite place the flavor beyond the cranberry but I'd guess it was brown sugar and cinnamon.
Cinnamon Raisin Pecan hot cereal: I tried the microwave method of pouring 1/2 cup of cold water into the bowl, microwaving for 30seconds, and then letting it sit for 1-2 minutes. The result was still a soupy instant oatmeal texture. The included foil packet had raisins and and chunks of pecan. This had a brown sugar and cinnamon taste.
Maple brown sugar crunch hot cereal: For this one I went back to steeping but put in less water. It didn't turn out well. The flavor was okay but not spectacular. The highlight? The nuts (almonds I think).
Given the price on these hot cereals (something like $4 for a 2-pack), I unfortunately won't be buying any of them.
The Great Goldfish Deathening - aka a review of Goldfish Mac & Cheese
MG saw this box of Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Mac & Cheese Cheddar flavor at the store and wanted to try it. So we bought it.
This mac & cheese has cute little goldfish-shaped noodles complete with smiles. MG's first question was, "Can I bite their heads off?"
I said, "Yes, you certainly can."
MG's response, "Then prepare for the Great Goldfish Deathening of 2013."
MG mixed it all up and commented on how the box asks for the milk in tablespoons.
We tasted it. MG says, "It doesn't taste like mac & cheese. It tastes like cheddar. It's not bad. But definitely not like Kraft Mac N' Cheese."
Since this wasn't Kraft, that made sense. But yes, I agree that it did taste more like cheddar the Kraft's macaroni and cheese does.
I asked MG if we'd buy this again, his answer, "Probably not. At least not that flavor. There was less pasta and it didn't taste like Goldfish cheese." For the record, we always add pasta to our Kraft mac n' cheese, so I'm skeptical of his claim about less pasta.
There you have it!
L'Oreal Paris Magic BB Cream
Price: $10.95
Size: 1 fl oz
Shades: Fair, Light, Medium, Deep
Where to buy: Mass food and drug retailers nationwide
The BB Cream says it will give a sheer coverage that looks like a natural bare skin finish while delivering built-in skincare benefits. It is supposed to prime and smooth, hide flaws, hydrates all day and corrects/evens skin. The 24 hour moisturization comes from being infused with Panthenol, Vitamin E and Glycerin.
When first applying the BB Cream I was slightly worried, the color it comes out as is a white tinged gray color. Once you move it around a little bit with your fingers it quickly turns colors.
This is when first squeezed out of the tube. You only need a little bit to cover a lot of skin.
After smoothing it out fully you can barely see it on my skin.
I applied L'Oreal Magic BB Cream first thing in the morning and took a picture of it that night. It held up flawlessly. I highly suggest this if you're wanting to try out BB Cream.
Disclosure: I received this product free from SheSpeaks and L'Oreal in exchange for an honest review.
