Anya's Ipsy/MyGlam November 2012

COM

This post has taken so long because my camera battery died. And then once it was charged I never got a photo of this bag. I know, excuses excuses. Above is the image from Ipsy's site. I did NOT get the mascara. They sent the brow gel instead.

Anyhow, here's my review:

  • Starlet Intense Eyeliner
    • A full eyeliner pencil came in this box. Shade is "chocolate". It's closer to reddish brown than any chocolate I've come across. That would be a sweet shade...for just about anything other than eyeliner. It ends up getting lost in every shadow combination I've tried. I'm also not a fan of pencils because I suck at sharpening them.
  • Nailtini Nail Lacquer in Millionaire
    • I was excited for this one because it was a full bottle of polish. But then I recalled I'm not a fan of glitters. This is like confetti in a bottle. If that sounds good to you, then by all means, grab some. (Check out picture below)
  • bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss
    • The color isn't too bad. The size was sweet. It might not be a full stick but it's definitely not a puny sample. Consistency ok. It doesn't last any longer on my lips than any of my other lipgloss (basically its gone after sipping any drink). It has a cool, tingly feel after a few seconds. I'm not sure why but its not uncomfortable, it's just a little strange.
  • Chella Defining Eyebrow Gel
    • This has a slightly chemical odor to it kind of like nail polish or remover. It comes in a smallish tube with a wire brush very similar to mascara. I assume I'm supposed to whisk it along my brow. So I did. The scent fades as it dries. But as far as I can tell this does absolutely nothing for me. To be fair, I don't have a whole lot of brow to gel.
  • theBalm Meet Matt(e) eyeshadow palette in Matt Batali
    • Have yet to try this one. It's a bit dark. I haven't been that brave.

Nailtini "Millionaire" polish on top of ORLY "Liquid Vinyl".

Anya's November Birchbox

COM

So here's a picture of the stuff in my Birchbox this month...sans the potato chip chocolate.
  • Miracle Skin Transformer™ Vanish Instant Imperfection Corrector
    • I didn't notice this doing anything useful at all. It wasn't good as a primer it wasn't good as a concealer. It just wasn't good.
  • Chuao Chocolatier Assorted ChocoPod
    • This was yummy and unique but I'm not sure it would be worth the money to buy a whole set of them.
  • Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme Petite Cologne Absolue (in a tiny vial inside that white envelope)
    • This has a nice woodsy floral scent. I can't figure out if its for a girl or guy but I do like it. It's one of my favorite perfume samples. I'm going to be sad when I run out because that price tag is a little high.
  • Oscar Blandi Pronto Texture & Volume Spray Travel Size
    • My first impression of this spray was that it had a strange sour scent. I have unruly wavy hair that has to be straightened with a straightening iron to look decent.
    • I followed the directions, spraying my straightened hair from ends to roots as I lifted up. My hair flopped back down, every bit as flat as usual. If I fluffed it a bit, it would stay up for a little while. But it would do the same with a light hair spray too and probably stay that way better. While this product doesn't leave my hair feeling as sticky as a hair spray, I don't think it's worth the difference.
  • stila all over shimmer liquid luminizer try-me-set
    • I received the pale pink in my November box. My skin is fair but this stuff is difficult to see, even when gooped on. The subtle all-over sheen it mentions when mixed with fondation is what I get from using the product by itself. I have shimmery body lotions that have more coverage than this stuff.

Ciaté Velvet Manicure

COM

I saw this set at Sephora when we visited Ohio last month. I couldn't bring myself to buy it then but when I got the e-mail about the IT KIT deal, this was at the top of my shopping cart.

I ordered the Blue Suede color. Here's what was in the box:

My first attempt wasn't terribly successful.
Here's my second attempt, about 16 hours after I did them:

As you can see, the edges have chipped. There are also a few worn spots where the polish is visible beneath.

This is a really neat effect but it doesn't last long.

We have some flocking at the house for hobby-type miniature landscaping. I might try this effect with that because it seems like it will be similar.

Sephora "IT KIT" November Freebie

COM
I got an e-mail from Sephora about a freebie called the "IT KIT". There were three options available, free with your order of $25 or more.

I picked "The Lasting Impression" IT Kit and here's what it came with (image from Sephora):

This is what the bag looked like when I got it:

Here are the products inside (and a penny so you can get an idea of how large they are):

I've finally had a chance to try some of these. Here's my write up:

The Lancôme Hypnôse Star Mascara isn't too bad. I like it better than last month's box find of theBalm "What's Your Type" mascara. Most people would probably prefer Benefit's They're Real.

The Tarte Smooth Operator Finishing Powder is on par with MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Microfinish Powder. I can't tell a difference between the two (I bought the MFE powder on my own).

I also couldn't tell much of a difference between the two perfume samples. Both are floral in similar ways. The Alien one doesn't remind me of aliens...not that I would know what an alien smells like ;)

I tried Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch as a primer (because that's what Sephora says it is) and found that it didn't work very well. It didn't smooth out my skin, hide pores or imperfections. In fact my MFE Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation clumped in several places atop this stuff despite having moisturized. I'll stick with my Smashbox primer.

I didn't notice much of a difference with or without the Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray but I've been barely spritzing it on myself because I'd been warned not to get it too close. Maybe I need to try a little more of it.

I've yet to try the Sephora brand primer. I intend to do a post just about primers one of these days...provided I can find one I actually like.

The Sephora Instant Moisturizer isn't bad but certainly not worth the money for the full bottle.

Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish is my favorite out of this bag. It's got a sandy consistency that does a great job exfoliating the skin. My skin does feel smoother after. I may splurge and get some when I run out.

Pantone Polish

COM

I saw these Pantone Universe Jewel Lacquer polishes at Sephora in Dayton and wanted them.
I didn't buy them then. But when I needed to fill out my shopping cart so I could get a freebie, this was an easy choice.

The greenish is called "Reflecting Pond"
The purplish is called "Violet Quartz"

Here they are together:
Index finger and middle finger have 1 coat.
The other two fingers have two coats and the opposite color stamped.

I'm pleased with the greenish. The violet is meh but it was worth it to get all the other freebies (post coming).

October Beauty Army

COM
I signed up in September for Beauty Army, and I really like it so far! I went ahead and got another box, even though I have the option to skip the month. I love the fact that I can pick my own samples, and retake the quiz until I get the ones I like.

Here is what I chose for my October box.

1. LASHEM Measurable Difference Lash Gel
    *Full size - $69.99
2. Skinn Cosmetics - Twin Set - Pink Tulip
    *Full size - $18.50
3. Fiafini Divine Hydration Moisturizer
    *Sample size - $3.85
4. Suntegrity BB Cream SPF30
    *Sample size - $6.62
5. Lipsi Cosmetics Aphrodite Powder
    *Sample size - $4.59 (estimate)
6. You Da Balm - Grapefruit
     *Full size - $2.99

October Box TOTAL: $106.54

1. LASHEM Measurable Difference Lash Gel
I was so excited to see the Lashem as one of the items I could select! It is supposed to increase and strengthen lashes (and brows).

2. Skinn Cosmetics - Twin Set - Pink Tulip
I love the color of the lipstick, though the gloss is mostly sheer. I was able to build the color a little bit. I tend to use the gloss over the lipstick.

3. Fiafini Divine Hydration Moisturizer
I only requested this so I could give it to my mom haha.

4. Suntegrity BB Cream SPF30
I was kind of surprised how well this covered since it is a BB cream. It is by no means full coverage, it's more like a tinted moisturizer.

5. Lipsi Cosmetics Aphrodite Powder
Finishing powder. I haven't actually used this yet, but I will soon!

6. You Da Balm - Grapefruit
I love this lip balm! It smells good, goes on light and seems to hydrate my lips.

The monthly cost is $12 a month, with free shipping. If you want to subscribe here is my referral link.

Julep November IT Girl Box

0
COM

November's IT Girl box came with colors
Hailee and Nora, a Matte Top Coat and three One-Step Polish Remover Pads.

Hailee is a gun metal grey color.
Nora is a dark purple/grey.

The one-step polish remover pad worked well for cleaning off the suede polish on one hand. It didn't make it through both.

Below is the Hailee polish on my hand.
I've used the matte top coat on this picture but it didn't need it. It's matte naturally.
